How’s Your French?

It’s been an interesting day.

Last week’s sales numbers are in, and show no decline from first week to second, which is fantastic. It technically means I did even better than the first week, since week #1’s total also included pre-orders that might  have come months earlier. I was #15 on the UK SF bestseller list, and #43 on the overall UK hardback fiction list. I also hit #532 in books on Amazon this morning, putting me at #14 on their constantly fluctuating fantasy bestseller list. I’m also up to 32 customer reviews, all of them positive.

On top of that, Bragelonne, my French publisher, put up a post about my Paris visit on their blog for Milady, the SF imprint that will be publishing the French edition of The Painted Man next year. The post is in French, of course, but between us, Dani and I were able to translate it. I certainly need to brush up if I want to read that edition, though.

Also in the news, Voyager has finished the mock-up for the cover to my next book, The Desert Spear, and it is AWESOME. The final version will be painted by the amazing Larry Rostant, who did the cover for The Painted Man.

Check it out:

  1. That cover is awesome!

I don’t know any French, though, so I can’t even begin to attempt to translate that blog entry. I took Spanish in HS. Silly me.

  2. WOW, I’ve decided I must comment less on your blog to avoid looking like a complete internet saddo but I just have to say, AWESOME cover.

  3. What the heck is a saddo? Whatever it is, comment all you want. I love to see that someone is actually reading all this!

  10. It is a stunning cover, pity I hate the horrid man for what he did to Arlen. SO I hope he gets his comeuppance in this book, Yeah Arlen…lol
Still making us wait a whole year for the 2nd book is sooo naughty of you Peter.
A little taster of what is to come might keeps us all sweet though…lol

  11. My goal in The Desert Spear is to have you rooting for Jardir as much as Arlen. Looks like I have my work set out for me.

There will be several tastes of what is to come before book 2 comes out, including but not limited to: deleted scenes, short stories starring established characters, and sample chapters. Stay tuned to the blog for more info on these as I get them ready!.

  13. Jardir isn’t so bad once you get to know him. That cover was just the mock-up! Check out the final one here:

  14. the first book was awesome! it was the cover art that attracted me in the first place and the picture art of the next one looks SWEET however i doubt ill ever route for jardir as he’s a coward for what he did it was kinda infuriating but besides all that when exactly will the next book be published i spent the last of my money on the first and would be willing to spend my last penny on the next so when…………

  15. I enjoyed the first book and I’m look forward to reading the second once it comes out. I also like the different spin on the magic that is in this new world of fantasy.

One thing on the cover page:
The eyes are screwed up… the left eye looks like its looking at you while the right eye is looking to the right lol.
You should have the artist change this to either both looking at you or looking to the side. (otherwise you get a cross-eyed spear-wielding dude who’s high on drugs 🙂 )

Anyways I’m always critical but I don’t really care about the picture so long as the words in the book are worth the time to read.

    Good job!

  16. Hi Paul,

That image was just the mock-up for the cover. You can see the final painting here:
