Podcast Update

Ugh. I’m running out of stuff to talk about, but I don’t want to break my longest daily blogging streak… maybe ever. So… uh, here’s a direct link to the interview I did with Grant Boyden on Sport 927am in Australia. You can tell how nervous I am being on the radio by counting the number of times I say “uh…” You can make a drinking game out of it, too, but I warn you, it will get you WASTED.

Also, look for some upgrades to the website in the coming days. We are changing some of the design, and I will be adding a “deleted scenes” blog to allow people to see some of the sections from The Painted Man (and future books) that I was sorry to cut, along with some short discussion about why cutting them was the right thing to do, anyway.

  1. Deleted scenes — nice! (Wasn’t that one of my suggestions?)

  2. It’s been my intention to have the deleted scenes up since the inception of the site; it just seemed pointless until the book came out somewhere and people other than me and my friends gave a damn. I’m very fond of some of them.

  3. In that case I’m looking forward to a future (author’s choice) edition where you can include them.

On a side note A Game of Thrones is ranked 50th on Amazon’s Fantasy and Science fiction list while you’re up on 15. Congrats on beating Martin!

  4. Well, it probably helps that GoT has been out for more than a decade, but don’t think I didn’t notice and get a little thrill about it!

  5. You did great! You had a nice ease about the conversation and didn’t seem stammered. What time did you do this interview – was it on in Australia live? What kind of station is this?

  6. The show was live in Australia at 1:15am Wednesday, which meant I had to be on at 11:15am Tuesday, because Australians live in the future. Still not really sure how that can be. I think it has to do with the magic island on LOST.

The station is mostly a sports station, but at night they do pop culture shows, too. The host was a really friendly guy, and was quick to sweep in whenever I talked myself into a corner.

  7. You.

    Beat.

    Martin.

I think I peed again. Your career is bad for my underwear.

  8. I think everyone is being very free with the term “beating”.

Did I tell you about the time at the World Fantasy Convention party in Saratoga, when GRRM asked me to pass the potato chips, and I stuttered like a star-struck idiot and missed the opportunity to talk to him?

The next day I grew a set, and we spent 20 minutes discussing NY pizza. It was surreal.

  9. Lol, remember the guy in the queue behind me at the book signing in London? He found me through YouTube so we’ve been having lots of long chats about books, and he’s persuaded me to buy A Game Of Thrones. Came in the post today, so now I get to see what all the fuss is about.

    Also…deleted scenes? Awesome!

  10. Don’t forget me, Chantal, when Martin seduces you away.

I’m very psyched to post the deleted scenes, myself. I always hated thinking no one would ever read them.

  11. Hey Peter, can’t wait to see what was cut – it’ll add to the books even more, sort of like a Star Wars Infinities kinda thing (What if Arlen…_ 🙂
I just listened to the podcast of the interview, what a nice guy! Hopefully I’ll be there in Melbourne when you get to Oz, trying to get mu ducks in order and become an Auzzie. Very cool interview. 🙂

  12. If you’re posting deleted scenes, then I think you should also post Jackie Chan style bloopers.
