UK Adventures pt. 1: Forbidden Planet & Goldsboro Signings, April 16
As I’ve mentioned before, I will be visiting the UK next month (April 15 – 21) to promoteΒ the British release of The Desert Spear (April 1, 2010; Voyager Books). It’s a short trip mostly centered around the London Book Fair, but I will be doing some other fun stuff while I am in town, starting with two London signings on April 16.
The first signing will be at Goldsboro Books in the famous Cecil Court in West London. The good folks at Goldsboro were early supporters of me in 2008 when The Painted Man first released in the UK, stamping 150 books with my six hand-drawn character avatars, selling them in signed & numbered sets of 25, in addition to another 100 regular signed copies.
That’s right, I signed 250 books that day:
Apparently, people enjoyed those stamped and numbered books, because Goldsboro has asked me to return and sign another batch for them, this time of The Desert Spear. I’ll do this during the day on April 16, so if you’re interested in one of these limited edition books, you can pre-order one from Goldsboro now.
Of course, if you’re interested in a signing with a more personal touch, meet me at the Forbidden Planet bookstore that evening (April 16, 6-7pm). Here’s a pic from my 2008 signing:
Above from right to left we see Chantal (who is awesome) in the red and her friend Sophie (who is doubtless awesome as well, since she hangs out with Chantal) in the powder blue. In the pink is Liz from My Favourite Books, as lovely a lady as you will ever meet. I’m the doofy guy in black.
Forbidden Planet is a great store, selling comics, statues, toys, books, and gaming materials. There’s also a whole Dr. Who section, if that’s your bag. I’m a big fan of FP. We have one in NYC as well, though I hear there is something of a rivalry with the London shop. In addition to any sales my signing generated, I generated a few myself, walking out that night with a nice stack of comics. Check out their author signing table, in itself a collector’s dream:
So if you’re in London on the 16th, stop in and say hi! After the signing ends at 7, my friends and I will be heading out to one of the local pubs to enjoy a few pints of Guinness, and everyone is welcome to come along and chat at bit.
Of course, I can’t stay out too late, as I have to get up early the next day for a walk. But I’ll talk about that next post…
Hmmm wonder if I can convince my husband to let me have a trip to London on the 16th as well as my sister’s hen weekend in Bath on the 24th. Think I might be pushing my luck to do both… hmmm wonder if my sister will notice I’m not there… π
Gutted that I will most likely miss out on seeing you at Forbidden Planet hope you enjoy your trip.
as my pediatric patients would say: “that’s baller!”
Oh good god. I hate that photo D:
But thanks for the mention!
Bummed that I can’t be there for the singing and the pub drinks afterwards. Will definitely make it to the book fair though, I’ve decided Β£25 is worth sacrificing lol. On what dates/times will you be at the book fair exactly?
*Signing, not singing, lol
Hoist a pint for me, Peat.
I must admit, I got a bit excited at the mention of singing in the pub, heh. Man, I really hope I can make that [‘thought I’m back in college on the 19th =( ].
It looks set to be an awesome day though!
Trust me, no one wants me to sing. Only Cassie tolerates it, and it’s just because she doesn’t understand keys and tunes yet.
I don’t know what you’re talking about though, Chantal. I think you look lovely. You have a case of elf-ear, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing around fantasy nerds. π
Since I can’t go to London (you know college students, broke all the time…), I had to pre-order one of the signed treasures. π
London! it’s just an hour away with the plane. but right in this time of april I’ll write my exams! Life is unfair… I guess I’ll just have to wait, until you come to germany. Or I’ll visit NY one day π
YAY, I live in london and not too far from FP, actually FB is my nerd shop of choice. So will definately pop down to see you Peat, that is if I remember and secondly to see if you remember what I look like.
I have already ordered my Desert Spear from Amazon, but I assume it would be cool if I could get you to sign it there, instead of having to buy it from FB.
I pre-ordered my signed copy from Goldsboro but I have just spotted that you can pre-order a signed copy from Forbidden Planet for Β£2 cheaper (every little helps).
Day trip to London it is then! How exciting π
So Peter are you coming to Belfast Northern Ireland? dont forget your fans on the emerald isle’ π all the best with the desert spear I cant wait to read it.
.. i agree with andy .. come to belfast .. or just ireland in general – home of THE best pubs π .. now if that doesn’t motivate you .. :p
I agree on the coming to Ireland – I think Dublin would be good and I would happily show you around and could even take you to the Guinness storehouse where you can pour your own – it’s the best place to drink it!!
I believe what you said made a lot of sense. But, think on this,
what if you composed a catchier title? I am not suggesting your
information isn’t solid., but what if you added something that makes people want more?
I mean Peter V Brett :: Peephole In My Skull is a little
plain. You should peek at Yahoo’s front page and see how they create article titles to grab
people interested. You might add a video or a related pic or two to grab people excited about everything’ve written. Just my opinion, it would bring your website a little bit more
interesting.
