Sonnet for a Spiky Demon
Posted by Meg
Here is Mia with more demon words and pictures!
Me again – the demon addict.
First three photos: This is my winged hollow demon. It has a central core which if pierced could disable or kill it. The outer shell are slats of titanium strength, the body is hollow. There’s a photo of the inner core. The photo with swords/spears is there to show that hitting the wrong spot just gets your sword/spear stuck or it could even break if you just hit the shell.
Photos #4 & #5: The prickly demon. For some reason, the backstory came to me in sonnet form so I just went with it.
I was born in the dark,
deep in the earth
Without a father,
without a mother.
Chaos,
mayhem and mischief spurred my birth.
Behold, I am a creature of wonder!
Created to sow misery and pain
My body is a weapon – head to tail.
Lying low,
prickly, a desert domain,
I am resolute and I will not fail.
When I thrash you will likely meet my quill –
Even without the poison at the tip
They can prick, they can tear and they can kill.
Run, if you must, but make haste and don’t slip.
If you prick me, you might just see me bleed,
If I prick you though, you will more than bleed.
And it has these final words:
This world in flux is unkind, hostile, rough,
I brook no mercy, prepare to be tough.
Thank you Mia for more excellent demons! I love the sonnet! It’s both spooky and creative. Check out Mia’s first array of demons here.
All the contest entries will be up by next week, so we are going to announce the winners on Thursday, June 7th.
