Doppelgangers
Posted by Meg
Here is the last entry from Mia …
Still me. My last demon with a backstory (sort of) is the split demon. At various points, I’ve also called it The Twins, the Gemini demon, the doppelgangers, shadow demon. When targeting its prey, it splits into two seemingly identical demons. Warding the doppelganger is like warding a shadow. Only the real one can be affected by wards and kills both. I don’t know why, but I had the Monty Python song ‘Brave Sir Robin’ in my head when the idea for this demon came to me so I wrote the backstory to that tune.
There goes the vile split demon
Rose forth from down the Core
Watch him fly from here to there
It moves quite fast, take care!
He seems not at all afraid to be
Killed by nasty wards
Big, bad, bold, barbed split demon.
He would quickly split in two
When faced with any foe
One is real, the other fake
Hard to tell, oh no!
You’d better learn real quick
Or the coreling gets away
Just make sure you ward the true one
Not the copy!
It’s a ball before split
Black and green all around
Set of wings for each half
When it splits best watch out
They have lots of sharp teeth
And with poison to boot
Watch your front and your back
Do you need to hear more??
Decide if you will run away
Or if you will fight and stay!
The first moves left, the second moves right
You’re surrounded, no escape in sight
Don’t let it near enough to bite
There’s poison in those fangs, that’s right
Their speed, their bite – they’re both bad news
Neither one is good to choose
Toxic, vile and lethal – split demon!
And that’s all folks! Thanks for your indulgence!
p.s. I know it’s past deadline. I’m not really joining the contest so much as demonstrating that I have corelings on the brain. I blame you, Mr. Brett.
Thank you Mia! Fantastic entry. You can check out her other two posts here.
