Favorite Character Contest: Renna Doll
Posted by Meg
Mia, maker of all things awesome, wows us again with her Renna doll. Check it out.
Yes, this doll began life as Merida. But her sassy expression reminded me of Renna and I started imagining what she’d look like decked out as Renna.
I confess I wasn’t much of a Renna fan previously. Bruna is my sentimental favorite. Unfortunately, I cannot draw or sculpt to save my life and cannot think of a way of bringing Bruna to life in the manner she deserves. Thankfully, ‘The Daylight War’ made me see Renna differently. I like her untamed, tempestuous nature and fierce loyalty. She has earned a place in my personal list of beloved characters. Plus, the impromptu wedding scene was quite touching and I wanted to pay a bit of an homage to it.The first photo is my wedding tableau, with the description alongside it.
The second is the many looks of my Renna action figure(!): a casual/playful outfit, a Red Sonja crossover attire with the blue fur boots, Renna with my version of the Cloak of Unsight (front and back views), my funky Renna look with a warded bandana, and the back view of my little TDW promotional vest. A girl requires a complete wardrobe.
The third photo is a collage of the accessories I made to complete the looks: (1) cloak of unsight (2) bouquet of fabric roses (3) warded pouch (4) meant to be warded acorns kept in the pouch (5) Count Thamos’ gift (6) warded choker (7) knife (8) warded bandana (9) footwear: fur boots, warded flats, warded flip flops (a girl’s gotta have her shoes) (10) wedding band (11) Leesha’s circlet of flowers (12) warded bracelet (13) warded necklace
I beaded her hair two different ways with two types of beads– skull pony beads (my Sharik Hora throwback) and colored hair beads. I’m aware she’s not beaded in the books but I think it suits her and I don’t deem it incompatible with her style and attitude. I say the hair is reddish-brown and I’m sticking to that. I took other artistic liberties as well but all in the spirit of Renna’s character (I believe).
Fantastic job, Mia! I love the add-ons, especially the crossover attire with Red Sonja. Brilliant!
