Clay Demon Contest Winner!

Posted by Meg

A couple weeks ago, Peat was looking up what a group of flame demons are called in his appendix, when he realized a gapping hole: there is no name for a group of clay demons.

chapter25-500x758

He decided to call on some of the best to figure out what to name them: you guys!

The entries flooded the comments page. It was hard to choose a winner, but in the end, a last minute suggestion from LJ won the day with his idea …

A shattering of clay demons.

Amazing entry. Peat wanted something that both made sense to the demons being “clay” but something intimidating as well. This fits both perfectly. Well done!

There were tons of amazing entries, all of them clever and creative. Peat and I enjoyed reading each and every one of them. Most of them on are the original blog post, but there are more on Peat’s Facebook as well if you want to check them out.

  1. I’m not really impressed with that. Clay doesn’t shatter and there were far better options available.

  2. Clay contains water…when it evaporates the end product is fragile… And shatters easily

  3. It isn’t clay if it doesn’t have water. I agree with Vashta. Bad choice.

  4. I liked clump, but a shattering works well too. It’s not only what fired clay does, it’s what clay demons do.

  9. I thinks a Landslide of Clay Demons sounds better.

  10. @G Blynd: If clay no longer contains water it is still clay, just dry one.

But I agree – dry clay doesn’t shatter. It crumbles.
It would shatter if it was thrown into a wall, but I’m not sure dry (fragile) clay should be associated with clay demons (weren’t they quite strong?).

@Peter Balatoni: I agree. I was thinking “an avalanche”, but “a landslide” is good too.
