Warded Wednesday: Favorite Ward
Posted by Karen
Hey everyone! You know how this goes.
Today we’re asking you to think about all the different wards in the Demon Cycle world. There are a bunch of different types and each one serves a different purpose.
The question for this week’s giveaway is:
What’s your favorite ward?
This can be the look, the function, or anything else. Bonus points for letting us know your reasons. For a full list of wards, check out the Ward Grimoire.
The prize for this giveaway is a Warded Man trade paperback!
This giveaway book was provided by our friends at Del Rey. The Warded Man is where everything begins. If you’d like a copy signed by Peat himself, go ahead and enter.
Remember, we can only pick your comment if you respond to our post on the blog. We’re looking forward to your answers.
Giveaway answers will be accepted until Monday. The winner will be announced Tuesday.
You can get your copy of The Skull Throne here!
Visually my favourite ward is the Wind Demon Ward. It looks like a giant dragon-like creature beating its wings to stand in mid-air, tail extended towards the ground. Also (I don’t know why) it looks purple to me, like the night and there is something terrifyingly majestic about it.
Gotta go with Pressure. I like how calligraphy-like it is and the way it gets used in the series just really cements who Arlen is and what he does.
My favourite ward would have to be ‘Light’. Visually it looks similar to the Japanese hiragana character ?. It is the phonetic character ‘o’ and can be defined as ‘Honourable’. I think that the visual relationship between the Japanese character and the ‘Light’ ward to be more than coincidental as honour is frequently represented by light.
The Japanese character doesn’t seem to be properly displayed on your blog. Here’s an image of it.

My favourite ward would have to be the Flame Demon ward. To me, it appears to dance and shimmer with heat and tongues of fire.
